Our new MCS chair person
Dear Members,
I am writing to introduce myself as the new chairperson of MCS tennis club. I am retired and live in Colwall. I have played tennis on and off since childhood though you probably would not believe this, and have been a member at Mathon for 7 years.
There is a committee of 10 members who have served for various lengths of time and do a huge amount for the club organising events and looking after the courts etc. You will be able to read a lot more about this in the upcoming newsletter to be sent out in March.
As some of you know, the club runs 2 men’s, 2 ladies, and 2 mixed teams in the Hereford and Worcester leagues. We are always looking for people willing to play in the teams. A brief report about each team will be in the newsletter.
Money is always a major issue. Our expenses, court maintenance, electricity costs, insurance etc have all rocketed in the past few years. We need to have a sum available for resurfacing the courts which will be needed in the next 2 or 3 years. This means that membership fees will have to rise and we will have to charge more for the light tokens, which I am told have been the same price since lights were first used. We plan to keep the increases as low as possible as members have other cost of living concerns. Details to follow in the newsletter.
MCS is an extremely friendly club with players with a huge range of abilities. The club socials on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings are popular and a good way to meet other members. There are WhatsApp groups which keep people informed about events and matches.
Please feel free to contact me about any club-related issue that concerns you. My preferred means of communication is by email at [email protected] or for urgent matters my phone 07752704525.
Looking forward to the weather improving and another fine summer of tennis.
