Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all our members

Message from our Chair, David 🪑

I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish all our members a very Happy New Year.  I hope you have all managed to spend time with family and loved ones over the festive period and hopefully have all managed some tennis – I know I need to get back on court soon to try to lose some of that festive weight I have added…..the Men’s B match on Saturday will certainly be a challenge! I hope to see many of you on court over the coming weeks and just ask you all to be kind to each other, and kind to yourselves. Best Wishes, David

Hedge trimming 15-17th Jan ✂️🌳

Heads-up that we’re having our monster hedges cut back on 15-17th Jan (Mon-Wed). This will be fairly noisy, on and off, through the day.

Floodlights Update đź’ˇ

We know a light on Court 1 is out. We are getting there! At present, we are in negotiations with two contractors. One has given an affordable price but their nearest installation for us to view is 2+ hrs away. Another operator fitted the lights at Ludlow Tennis Club so be easier to view, Tony has a meeting on 11th Jan to progress things.

If anyone else is open to providing club with an Interest-free loan to cover cost of the floodlights please contact Tony at [email protected]

31 December American Tournament 🏆

A hardy bunch of 9 MCS tennis players braved squally showers to compete in the annual New Year MCS American tournament. Their commitment to the sport of tennis was rewarded with a much-needed post-Christmas runabout, fun tennis, exchanging family Christmas experiences and, most of all, Anne’s famous cheese biscuits, Connor’s flapjacks, Peter’s fudge & Helen’s mince pies. The quality of tennis was high despite the occasional downpours, although these did nothing to diminish the spirit of our intrepid competitors. Peter battled his way to the top score & winner of the virtual Quaich, Helen was snapping at Peter’s heels in 2nd place & James B was a commendable 3rd.

Rain break

Champion Peter

Get well soon to Peter and Anne, who have both taken nasty tumbles in the last fews days (Anne on court, Peter off his bike). Hope to see you both back on court soon.

Last of all, 2024 American tournament dates will be announced soon!

Farewell to Matt đź‘‹

MCS’s resident crime author has sadly moved away and has left the club. He came down for a last game and book signing at the clubhouse. Best of luck Matt, you will be missed.
