The MCS Tennis Club AGM
Monday 13th November in Mathon Parish Hall from 7pm
Dear MCS Members,
I trust you are all keeping well and enjoying some great tennis!
I’m writing to notify you that our AGM will be held on Monday 13th November in the Mathon Village Hall from 7pm. Please bring your own drinks and snacks! Please click the links to view the proposed agenda and minutes of last year's AGM. Amongst other topics, we will be hearing the annual reports, applauding the club tournament winners and appointing club officers.
Like last year, this email will highlight the existing committee structure and then ask for people to put themselves forward to join the committee (in specific roles) and potentially nominate others. For each person, we will need a proposer and seconder (including re-electing existing members of the committee).
Existing committee
Chairman - David Gibbard
Vice Chairman & Comms – Chris Martin (standing down)
Treasurer – Tony Poyner
Membership/General Support – Pat Pugh
Secretary – Alice Eden
Welfare Officer & Coaching Liaison – Alison Walford
Grounds & Maintenance – Sheila Wilson
Tech & Social Media – Bella Bardswell
Safeguarding – Jackie Styles (standing down)
Ladies Captain – Helen Galassini
Men’s Captain – Steve Meredith
Open Committee Positions: Marketing, Communications, Fundraising
Please note that both Chris and Jackie are standing down at the AGM. We need to find a new person to fill the role of Vice Chairman and Communications (not necessarily the same role, but we do need someone to work with Bella on Comms/Social Media/Marketing and potentially fundraising and sponsorship). We could replace the Vice Chairman role with someone on Marketing/fundraising/sponsorship, etc., but we should discuss this at the meeting.
In line with LTA guidelines, the role of Safeguarding (as distinct from Welfare Officer) is the responsibility of all of the committee, and indeed all members, so this role will not continue.
All other committee members have expressed their intention to continue/stand for re-election at the AGM, which I am absolutely delighted about as they all do a great job.
Open Club Roles: Men’s B Team Captain
We are also looking for a Men’s B team captain, as Martyn Cartwright has expressed a desire to stand down. Please let me know if you are interested (please note that this is not a committee role). Sheila has agreed to take on the Mixed B captaincy from Peter, who is stepping down.
Chairman Position
Finally, if anyone would like to stand as Chairman but feels uncomfortable e-mailing me directly, please reach out to Tony, and he will “manage” the election process for Chairman. I have now been in situ for four years and feel it may be time for someone new to take over and potentially bring fresh ideas to the team. Having said that, I am happy to continue if the club members feel that this is in the best interests of the club.
Volunteering & Nominating
Please send nominations and volunteers by emailing me at [email protected] by the end of October.
Thanks all
David Gibbard, MCS Chairman
