This month’s newsletter is brought to you by special guest editor, Alice 👩💻
Our wildflower meadow is looking really fantastic. Please don’t walk on flowers!
Open Day & American Tournament & BBQ - Sun 21 July 🥇🍔
Please come to our second American tournament of the year. All abilities welcome. It is also the morning of the Open Day when visitors will see us in action, join in the fun and hopefully sign up as new MCS members. Who will be the winner of the Quaich this time? Don’t forget to bring some cash or a card for the barbecue. Prompt start at 10am. Should finish at about 12.30. A definite date to put in the diary.
MCS Quiz Night - Friday 2 August 🤓
Let’s bring our competitive spirits to Mathon Parish Hall to see who will win another of Geoff and Mary’s creative quizzes. If you have experienced these in the past, you will be sure to return for more fun, laughter and possible prizes! Make an evening of it, invite your family and friends, and enjoy the food and drink on offer too. Plenty of parking next to the hall. More details in next month’s Newsletter.
MCS Summer Tournament - Finals Sat 7 September 🏆
Details about the summer tournament are on the board in the clubhouse and have been emailed to all involved. Remember that the first round of the mixed doubles needs to be played by 21 June and the first round of the others is in early July, so start organising your matches. Make sure you read the tournament rules regarding payment, dates, balls, court bookings etc… Helpers needed on Finals Day. Let Ali know if you are willing to lend a hand.
CPR & defibrillator training ❤️
Members practising their CPR skills
10 MCS members have upgraded their skills by attending a very useful course on the delivery of cardio-pulmonary respiration (CPR) and the use of the defibrillator. Thanks go to Ali for organising this with Heart Start Malvern. If you are interested, a link to the course material can be found here.
Clubhouse upgrades 🪑
A massive thank you to David and Molly for donating some barstools to the clubhouse. The perfect height for watching play through the window from inside… spectating at MCS has never been so sophisticated!
Meet the committee - Tony our treasurer 📸
This month we are introducing you to a second member of the MCS Committee – Tony Poyner, who has worked tirelessly as the MCS treasurer since 2022. He has been involved recently with the painting of our beautiful club house and the commissioning of our new floodlights. He has been a significant member of the Committee for over 10 years. Before this he was a family member for 30 years when he introduced his children to the game.
We asked Tony a few questions:
Tony on hols
When did you first play tennis? I first played tennis as a schoolboy. Like most young people, when Wimbledon was on it was down to Victoria Park in Malvern to try my tennis skills. However, it never really became my first sport as football and cricket were my main activities.
Who is your tennis hero? Pat Cash was a great player and excellent commentator, along with John McEnroe.
Tell us something interesting about yourself. I worked for the same Paper company for nearly 40 years which involved worldwide travel visiting Paper Mills which was a great experience. Now retirement is even better, though I’m still turning up at airports for leisure travel.
What 3 words sum you up? Sport, travel and enjoying Life
Serve ‘n’ Snack Shack 🍫
We have replenished our supply of snacks and drinks in the Clubhouse. Help yourselves, but don’t forget to pop your money in the box. Prices are displayed on the fridge door.
MCS Team Results 😎
The summer league is well under way and lots of players have been involved in matches. Find match reports and results on the MCS website. Better still, come along to our home matches and cheer on the teams.
