Mini tournament for the MCS coaching group
MCS Quiz Night 🤓
We all get to flex our arm muscles on court, now it’s time to flex whose little grey cells! We’re having not one but two “MCS Quiz Off” nights with husband and wife teams of Geoff & Mary and Sue & Vince kindly offering to run us a couple of quiz nights. The first one will be at Mathon Village Hall on Friday 2nd August. More details to follow. For the moment, just keep the date free!
American Tournament - Sun 7th April 🥇
We didn’t have a great turn out for the first American of this year, not helped by our Ladies A team playing their first summer match, but those who took part enjoyed themselves greatly. David won the fabulous Quaich. Our next American is Sunday 21st July. Put it in your diaries!
MCS Summer Tournament 2024 🏆
A very BIG THANKS to those members who have entered & so now have a chance to play on the best day in the club year…..Finals Day Saturday 7th September…..as well as participate in exciting knockout matches during the summer.
The draw for doubles partners took place under strict highly controlled conditions (at club night!) & details of all the matches & deadline dates will be circulated to entrants this week by email. This information will also be on the notice board at the club.
Free balls if you refer new members 🎾
We would love some new members. Let your friends and family know about the club. If you are successful getting an adult to sign up a lovely tube of fluffy new balls will be yours.
Summer Season 2024 😎
The summer league is well under way and lots of players have been involved in matches. Find match reports and results on the MCS website. Better still, come along to our home matches and cheer on the teams. Drinks and snacks are on offer. Not as bribes, of course!
We have the following teams playing in these Herefordshire & Worcestershire leagues this summer:
If you would be interested in playing for the club in league matches but not sure how to go about it, then please contact Helen on email or Steve on email
Meet the committee 📸
This is a new feature for our newsletter where we get to know members of the MCS committee a bit better… first up is David Gibbard, who has been our chairperson for the last 5 years. David has overseen the difficult lockdown period, the refurbishment of the clubhouse and the installation of our fabulous new floodlights. He has also generously gifted the club our amazing sofa.
When did you first play tennis? I first played tennis at home as I grew up on a farm and we had our own grass court….both my parents played county tennis and my sister played junior Wimbledon (and lost to Sue Barker). I then didn’t pick up a racket from age 21 to when I joined MCS 8 years ago!
Who is your tennis hero? Jimmy Connors - I just love his battling, combative style.
Tell us something interesting about yourself - I am a huge Johnny Cash fan. I have visited his house, his museum and his grave in Tennessee. I love Country music.
What 3 words sum you up? - Cats, music, holidays!
David is standing down at the end of this year. Would you like to be the next chairperson? Please let David or Tony know if you are interested.
