June Newsletter
Welcome to June, it’s officially summer and time to play tennis.

Thanks to all who have renewed their membership - just in case anyone has forgotten please use the link on the website.
LOWERING THE COURT NETS AFTER PLAY
You may have noticed we have put new signs on the courts to ask players to lower the net by one turn so that the court net is not under tension after members have finished playing. We had Fosse, the company who put in the courts, out to have a look at the condition of the courts and discuss when they might need attention and they recommended that we lower the nets when not in use. So if all members could do that hopefully it will increase the longevity of the courts.
If you are having a problem booking courts please contact Sue [email protected] or via the WhatsApp social tennis group and hopefully we can sort it out.
Dates for the diary
West Fest on Saturday 28th June, 2-5pm, where we are running the Pimm’s table and telling all about the club, hopefully we will find some new players. If anyone has a free hour or two please watch the WhatsApp group for more information or contact Peter on [email protected]m

CLUB TOURNAMENT
The draw for the club tournament was sent out to the competitors a few weeks ago and the details are also on the notice board, where you can keep track of who is on their way to glory on FINALS DAY on Saturday 13th September.
SINGLES NIGHT ON MONDAYS is a popular event. Tom has put an impressive ladder on the wall so players can see how they are progressing. If you are interested please contact Tom on the WhatsApp group or by email just to let him know you are planning to come along [email protected].

USEFUL INFORMATION
We are pleased to announce that the price of tennis balls is now £6.00 per tube - excellent value. Please let Peter know if you want to buy balls and pay by BACS to the club.
We are exploring the idea of introducing pickleballs for members to play, not to replace tennis in any way but as an option with a temporary net and lines that can be put up for use and removed. It combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. It is played on a smaller court, half a tennis court with a net, using paddles and a perforated plastic ball. Pickleball has become very popular due to its easy to learn nature and low physical impact. Virtually anyone can pick up a paddle and play. If anyone is interested please mention it to any of the committee or directly to Peter or Sue.
Other news
We cleaned the club house and sorted the shed. Thank you for everyone who came and made light work of cleaning and sorting. We all appreciate having a tidy clubhouse.
The bring and buy table has raised £150.00 so far which is great. Please see if you have any items which may be of interest to others and add them to the table as you never know it might just be what someone is looking for.
Our ladies teams plus Peter celebrated the end of the winter league season at a Prosecco and paint evening in Ledbury. It was a much quieter celebration than normal. Everyone had their heads down concentrating on the painting something fabulous including bowls, jugs, butter dishes and even a gnomes house. By the end there were some amazing creations, and even those who said they were hopeless at art came up with some great pottery with the help of stickers.
We always need new team members. If you would like to join in the fun, just get in touch.

Team reports so far…..
All the teams have started their summer campaigns. The men’s A team starring Luke and Ben, Emil and Allan made a strong start with a win. The B team had a less happy result in their first match against a very strong team.
Ladies A report
Ladies A, Helen and Ali, Sheila and Bella, Kim and Alice had a difficult first match of the summer in Div 3 away to Bewdley, a team who only came down from Div 2 because of injury and who had previously come within one point of going into Div 1. We came away empty handed but full of good cake! Our second match vs Ross A, away, was more encouraging, with three championship tie breakers in the six matches, two of which we won to take 4 points. Apparently we have gained the reputation of providing delicious teas for visiting teams, well done.
Ladies B
Ladies B team players Anne, Sue Mc, Catriona , Sue A and Shelagh have had a mixed start with a commendable losing draw but enjoying the challenge and delicious teas.
Mixed A
The mixed A team are in a very strong division and had a tough first match against the league leaders.
Mixed B
The mixed B team are off to a flying start and head their division after 2 wins and a losing draw.
Ten points are awarded in each match, two for each rubber won and a bonus two for winning the match. If the match is tied on rubbers, the two points go to the team with more sets or games. Rarely, the bonus points are shared if the match is even on rubbers, sets and games. There, just in case you wanted to know how it all works.
Enjoy the sunny weather and playing tennis.
