Remembering Jack Hadley

Jack Hadley

It is with great sadness that we heard Jack Hadley had died on 23rd January.

Jack will have been well known to many of our longer standing members – for his support and passion for MCS, his fund of lengthy and convoluted jokes and his enormous Husky dog that he used to bring to the club!

Jack was Chair of MCS in 1986 and from 1991 to 1993 some 10 years after the first two courts were built in 1982. He also captained the men’s team for many years.

Looking back into the archives and talking to our longer serving members it is very clear that Jack was at the heart of the club throughout these years. He drove through a number of projects including the financing and building of court 3 in 1994 and the installation of our floodlights – which are about to be upgraded from his original designs.

Jack also co-ordinated the fund-raising concert given by Nigel Kennedy in 1992 to raise money that contributed to the floodlighting project.

It’s clear that we should all be grateful for Jack’s efforts alongside his fellow committee members back in the 90’s – we all benefit from his vision and energy during those years.

Former Club Chair Mark Walbridge sums up how many of us remember Jack;

“I got to know Jack during the late 90s when there was a group of us who played regularly on Friday evening club sessions and then went off to the pub afterwards. He was an excellent player who was always very friendly to everyone and had a great sense of humour”

Jack will be greatly missed, and we send our condolences to his family.
